Scott Rodwin recently completed his term as President of the American Institute of Architects of Colorado, the 2500 member association that represents the architectural profession. During his tenure, the AIA devoted an enormous amount of energy to helping to solve Colorado’s housing crisis.

The organization stood up a new housing committee, and worked vigorously with the Governor’s office and state representatives to help pass beneficial legislation that allows for more condo construction, new code options for single-stair multi-family housing and ten other pro-housing bills. AIA Colorado co-sponsored an international affordable housing competition, started a new knowledge-sharing network for custom home designers, and hosted 74 social and educational events, including popular green building seminars & architectural tours. He helped form new partnerships with the Colorado Green Building Guild and USGBC.

The AIA created a new committee for early-career designers, and has also been active in promoting mentorship, scholarships and pre-college design pathways for young people. Scott led Colorado’s delegation to DC, lobbying our Congress and Senate in support of historic building, R&D and green building tax credits.

Scott’s service and leadership in the architectural community has been remarkable. He has volunteered with the AIA every year for the last 33, including serving as Northern Colorado President twice, Founding the state’s Committee on the Environment back in ’95 before “sustainable design” even had a name, and serving as the Managing Editor of AIA Denver’s ground-breaking “Sustainable Design Resource Guide” back in ’93. He’s taught green building at the AIA’s national conference, bringing much of what we’ve learned as a firm working in Boulder to the larger stage.

Scott is grateful to the amazing AIA Colorado staff, and dedicated volunteers on the Board and state committees for their generous service. He believes that we are stronger (and wiser) together, and he has been able to combine his passions for community, sustainability and design to better serve Boulder and Colorado. Overall, his goal has been to better enable us to create a world that celebrates design excellence, and does so in a way that meets the highest ethical, social, and environmental standards for the benefit of all.
