Skycastle Construction

Stanley

This modest off-grid near-net zero energy home was built in starkly beautiful Cotopaxi, CO. Solar PV, solar hot water and a robust foam insulation package combined to achieve a HERS 5 rating (95% less energy than allowed by code). The low-profile, low-maintenance, and simple geometry of the envelope were characteristics specifically chosen to meet the owner’s requirements for economy, sustainability, simplicity and durability. The home is passive solar with large, well-protected south-facing windows that capture the sweeping views and a deep covered porch on the southwest corner to protect the home from overheating. The stained concrete radiant heated floor and a masonry wood stove provide excellent thermal mass for year round passive comfort. Subtle Japanese lines, carved wood beams and decorative rain chains complete this unique high-desert home.
