Founded in 1948, UUCB has been growing and hired Rodwin & Skycastle to provide complete design/build services for a 9,600 sf. expansion, an 11,000 sf. remodel and a new site design. The project has included facilitating a highly inclusive visioning process for the congregation, helping them navigate a complex County and City annexation and water challenge, and working within an uncertain budget. We were able to successfully generate an enthusiastic consensus among the congregation for a biophilic design that reflects UUCB’s values of sustainability and equity, and solve tricky existing conditions and programmatic relationships. The result is a new 275 seat sanctuary, a large multi-purpose atrium that evokes the feeling of walking into a forest, two re-invigorated large social halls, and a major multi-phased remodel of the classrooms, offices, bathrooms, kitchen and various support spaces. The new building will become a beautiful, accessible, Net-Zero energy, all-electric model of sustainable building. Construction is anticipated to start the summer of ’26.
